Redskins Placing Josh Doctson, Derek Carrier & Perry Riley On PUP List

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Redskins are placing first-round WR Josh Doctson, TE Derek Carrier and LB Perry Riley on the active/PUP list to open training camp.

  • In regards to Doctson, Rapoport mentions that his stay on the list should be very short, and this is mostly a procedural move.
  • Other players added to the list include: G Shawn Lauvao and WR Reggie Diggs.

Players placed on the active/PUP list can return to practice once activated. However, if they remain on PUP list to start the regular season, they would miss at least the first six weeks.

Doctson, 23, was taken with the No. 22 overall pick, which was a bit of a surprise pick for Washington. However, this gives them a long-term receiver to develop and some options when it comes to keeping veteran receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon at their current salaries in the coming years.

According to OverTheCap.com, Doctson receives a four-year contract worth $10,049,644 to go along with a signing bonus of $5,508,832. The contract will include a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2019.

During his four-year college career, Doctson caught 214 passes for 3,177 yards receiving (14.8 YPR) and 34 touchdowns.
