Redskins Re-Sign OLB Junior Galette To A One-Year Deal Worth Up To $4M

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Redskins have re-signed OLB Junior Galette to a one-year contract worth up to $4 million.

  • John Keim confirms the news and adds that Galette will sign the contract on Wednesday.

Galette was suffered an Achilles’ tear during a preseason practice last year that led to him being placed on season-ending injured reserve at the start of the regular season. He was later suspended for two games for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy for his role in a January incident in which he was accused of domestic violence.

Between the injuries, suspension, and the off-the-field issues that led to him being released in New Orleans, it was unlikely that Galette was going to have a hot market for his services, so a return to Washington really seemed like his best option in the end.

This will give him the opportunity to put together a strong season and reach the open market again in the hope of securing another major pay day.

Galette, 27, received a one-year, $745,000 contract from the Redskins and was testing the open market as free agent this year. However, the Redskins included the right of first refusal in his contract, so they could match offer he received from another team.

In 2014, Galette appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 45 tackles, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, two safeties and two pass defenses. That year, Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 4 defensive end in a 4-3 defense out of 59 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
