Redskins Reach Out To WR Pierre Garcon’s Reps, Has “Many” Suitors

John Keim of ESPN is reporting that the Redskins have finally reached out to free agent WR Pierre Garcon‘s representatives.

However, Keim says that it remains to be seen if anything will be completed before the start of free agency, as Garcon has “many” suitors right now. In fact, the sense Keim has gotten is that both Garcon and DeSean Jackson are likely to depart in free agency.

A few days ago, Garcon said he hadn’t heard from Washington at all regarding a new deal.

“I haven’t heard anything from the Redskins, man,” Garcon said, via the Washington Post. “I have not heard anything at all. But everybody does strategic moves right before free agency, or right during free agency, so I couldn’t tell you what they’re up to. … I’m sure I’ll hear something from them. But yeah, I haven’t heard anything from them.

The expectation is that Garcon should have a wide market in the coming days with speculative options being Cardinals, Rams, Eagles, Bears, Cowboys and 49ers.

Garcon, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2008. He spent four years in Indianapolis before signing a  five-year, $42.5 million contract that included $20.5 million guaranteed with the Redskins back in 2012.

Garcon is now in position to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent and will be among the best available receivers.

In 2016, Garcon appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and caught 79 passes for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
