Update:
John Keim of ESPN.com reports that the Redskins do not intent to re-sign DL Adam Carriker at a lower salary in the coming weeks.
———-
The Washington Redskins announced the release of DL Adam Carriker, TE Richard Quinn and P Sav Rocca on Tuesday.
- Chris Russell adds that Washington also released RB Jawan Jamison, TE Richard Quinn and RB Davin Meggett.
Carriker’s is obviously the most notable name in this group. He has been mentioned as a possible release candidate for a few months now, so this isn’t exactly shocking move by Washington.
Carriker, 29, signed a four-year, $20 million contract that included $3.7 million guaranteed with Washington back in 2012. He had a $6.5 million cap figure for the 2014 season. Releasing him will free up $2.98 million in available cap space.
Rocca, 40, was in the final year of his two-year, $2.24 million contract. He had a cap figure of $1,362,500, but the Redskins will save $1.2 million with this move.
In total, the Redskins should save $5.674 million with these five moves, according to OverTheCap.com.
