Redskins Release DL Ricky Jean Francois

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Redskins have released veteran DL Ricky Jean Francois on Wednesday.

Francois, 30, is a former seventh-round pick of the 49ers back in 2009. He played four seasons for San Francisco before departing and signing on with the Colts as an unrestricted free agent.

After two years, the Colts cut Jean-Francois loose and he signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Redskins in February of 2015. He was set to make a base salary of $2.75 million for the 2017 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Jean Francois will free up $3 million of available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.

In 2016, Jean Francois appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and recorded 32 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a pass defense.
