Redskins Release DL Stephen Bowen

The Washington Redskins have announced the release of DL Stephen Bowen on Friday.

Bowen, 30, had one year remaining on his five-year, $27.5 million contract that included $12.5 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $5.4 million for the 2015 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Bowen will free up $5.5 million in cap space while creating $2,520,000 in dead money.

In 2014, Bowen was limited to playing in just eight games for the Redskins after he began the year on the PUP list, due to a knee injury.  He finished the season with 11 total tackles and a pass defense.
