Pat White Goes Unclaimed, Could Be Back In Washington At Some Point

Pat White officially passed through waivers unclaimed following his release from the Redskins.

Washington was forced to add K John Potter after Kai Forbath suffered a groin injury late last week. The thinking was that Washington would re-sign White as soon as Forbath is healthy, but HC Mike Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that they won’t rush Forbath back.

We’ll have more regarding White’s possible return to Washington in the coming days.

ESPN 980 reports that the Washington Redskins will release QB Pat White.

  • Ian Rapoport adds that this move was made to free up a roster spot for newly signed K John Potter, who will fill in for the injured Kai Forbath while he’s out with a groin injury.
  • Rapoport adds that Washington is likely to re-sign White if he clears waivers in the coming days.

This means Rex Grossman will backup Robert Griffin III on Sunday when they take on the Packers. Washington has been impressed with White overall, so I’m sure they’ll make it a priority to retain him.
