Redskins Rumors: Santana Moss, Chris Cooley, Leonard Hankerson, Josh Morgan

Santana Moss & Chris Cooley

Rich Tandler of CSN Washington believes that the Redskins will ultimately keep veteran’s Santana Moss and Chris Cooley on their 53-man roster, despite the fact that they could both be on the bubble.

Cooley figures to lose the starting tight end spot to Fred Davis, but the real question mark surrounding him is his health and ability to be productive now that’s he’s coming off of some injuries. Cooley will also make  $3.8 million for the upcoming season, so that too is obvious concern from the Redskins stand point.

Washington has actively addressed the receiver position during the offseason with the signings of Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan, which leaves Moss on the bubble as well. He’ll make $2.65 million this season, there’s really no guarantee that he’ll be a starter for them this season.

The fact that the Redskins have over $6 million tied up in these two players is concerning, but they could still use some veteran leadership on that side of the ball, so they’ll at least be given an opportunity to prove that they can contribute in other ways for the team.

Leonard Hankerson & Josh Morgan

Sticking with the previous report, Rich Tandler believes second-year receiver Leonard Hankerson will end up starting over Josh Morgan.

Tandler adds that Hankerson, Morgan and Pierre Garcon are the only locks to make the team. Obviously, Moss could end up as their No. 4 receiver, but there’s no guarantees in regard to him making the team.

Hankerson is coming off of hip surgery, but is expected to be ready for the team’s minicamp in June.
