Redskins Sign S D.J. Swearinger To Three-Year, $13.5M Deal

John Keim of ESPN reports that the Redskins have signed free agent S D.J. Swearinger to a contract on Thursday.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Swearinger receives a three-year deal that will pay him $4.5M per year and $6M in year one.

Swearinger, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Texans back in 2013. He lasted just over two years in Houston before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later claimed off of waivers by the Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay cut him loose during the 2015 season and he later signed to the Cardinals’ practice squad. Arizona brought him back on a one-year contract last April.

In 2016, Swearinger appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 66 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions and eight pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 safety out of 89 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
