Redskins Sign Second-Round Pick OLB Trent Murphy

The Washington Redskins announced the signing of second-round pick OLB Trent Murphy on Friday.

Murphy’s four-year contract is worth an estimated $4,472,798 and includes a signing bonus of $1,572,944, according to OverTheCap.com.

Murphy was a bit of a surprising selection given that many assumed Washington would look to upgrade either their offense or defensive line with their first pick in the draft.

However, it sounds like the Redskins have big plans for Murphy, who is expected have to move around a bit in order to see playing time with Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan handling the starting jobs.

At Stanford, Murphy totaled 160 tackles, 52.5 tackles for loss, 32.5 sacks, two interceptions and three forced fumbles.
