Redskins Signing LB Cassanova McKinzy

Matt Zenitz of AL.com reports that the Redskins are signing LB Cassanova McKinzy to a contract and will finalize a deal by “early next week.”

Washington brought McKinzy in for a workout earlier in December, so they were apparently impressed enough to bring him back and sign him.

McKinzy, 25, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in May of last year. Tampa Bay wound up waiving him during the preseason and he caught on with the Rams’ practice squad.

Los Angeles signed him to a futures contract but made him one of their final roster cuts as they trimmed down to the 53-man limit. The Rams re-signed him to their practice squad, but released him after a couple weeks.

He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

During his college career at Auburn, McKinzy recorded 258 total tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, two interceptions, two pass defenses, one fumble recovery, and three forced fumbles.
