Redskins Tag Fred Davis

ESPN 980 Washington in Washington reports that the Redskins have franchised TE Fred Davis.

Davis, 26, made headlines last year when he and Trent Williams were suspended for four games after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

Still, he was one of the teams’ more productive players last year and set career highs in a number of categories. Washington has said that they plan to keep Chris Cooley despite the fact that he’s been dealing with a number of injuries in recent years. The tag for tight ends will cost the team $5.4 million for the 2012 season.
