Redskins Tried Out Former First-Round Pick Vernon Gholston

Free agent DE Vernon Gholston announced that he tried out for the Washington Redskins on Tuesday.

This is fairly surprising news given that it’s been a few years since we’ve heard any news regarding him returning to the NFL.

Gholston, 28, was a major draft bust for the Jets after they used the No. 6 overall pick on him back in 2008.

After the Jets released him in 2011, Gholston caught on with the Bears, but lasted just a month before he was once again placed on waivers. The Rams signed him a year later only to release him after a week.

Gholston last appeared in an NFL back in 2010 while playing for the Jets. In his career, he recorded just 42 tackles and no sacks over the course of three years.
