Redskins Worked Out 5 Defensive Linemen

According to Howard Balzer, the Washington Redskins brought in five defensive linemen for tryouts on Wednesday including Tavaris Barnes, A.J. Francis, Caushaud Lyons, Roy Philon, and Ondre Pipkins.

Of this group, the Redskins signed Francis to their practice squad on Wednesday and Pipkins to the unit on Thursday.

Barnes, 25, wound up signing on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson back in May of 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season but was waived in the days leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Seahawks signed him to a contract just a few days later but unfortunately waived him with an injury designation during the preseason and he later reverted to their injured reserve list.

Seattle declined to tender him a contract during the offseason and he later signed on with the Buccaneers in May. Tampa Bay cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

In 2015, Barnes appeared in 12 games for the Saints and recorded five tackles and no sacks.
