Reggie Nelson Unlikely To Be Back With Bengals?

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN has heard that free agent S Reggie Nelson wasn’t thrilled with the original offer the Bengals extended him.

  • According to Fowler, it now appears as though reunion between Nelson and the Bengals is unlikely.
  • Jim Owczarski reports that the Bengals were offering Nelson a two-year contract worth more than the minimum, but not by a lot.
  • John Keim of ESPN reports that the Redskins expressed interest in Nelson, but have no visit scheduled at this point in time.

There really hasn’t been a lot of reported interest in Nelson since free agency opened a few days ago.

Nelson, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2007. He spent three years in Jacksonville before he was traded to the Bengals in return for David Jones and conditional draft pick.

Nelson played out his contract and is now among the best available players in this year’s free agent market.

In 2015, Nelson appeared in all 16 games and recorded 77 tackles, eight interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 14 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 safety out of 88 qualifying players.
