Reggie Wayne Requested To Be Released From Patriots

Update:

HC Bill Belichick issued a statement saying that WR Reggie Wayne‘s release was “mutually” agreed upon.

Obviously, Reggie’s time here was brief but it already confirmed what I already thought — he is a true professional who represents every positive attribute a player should emulate,” said Belichick, via Ian Rapoport. “Our parting was mutually agreed upon and I am personally grateful to have worked with one of the great NFL players of the past two decades.”

According to Rand Getlin, veteran WR Reggie Wayne requested to be released from the Patriots for undisclosed reasons.

Getlin adds that Wayne is evaluating his options at this point in time.

Josina Anderson of ESPN is reporting that Patriots veteran WR Reggie Wayne “will not be on 53” roster.

  • Anderson’s source added, “he will not be there.”

Wayne, 36, signed a one-year, $2.8 million contract with the Patriots just a few weeks ago, so this comes as a bit of a surprise.

In 2014, Wayne appeared in 15 games and caught 64 passes for 779 yards and two touchdowns for the Colts. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 106 receiver out of 110 qualifying players, so this clearly wasn’t a great season by his standards.
