Relationship Between Derek Carr & His Teammates Reportedly “Fractured”

Update:

Raiders QB Derek Carr addressed the earlier report about him having a “fractured relationship” with teammates and explained what happened last weekend.

According to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, team sources have described the relationship between Raiders QB Derek Carr and his teammates as “fractured.”

Thompson says that there is waning confidence in Carr’s ability, due in part to him apparently crying after injuring his arm last week.

“Raiders headquarters is not the best space for Carr. The belief in him has deteriorated, perhaps to irreparable levels,” Thompson writes. “Team sources describe a fractured relationship between Carr and his teammates, mostly because confidence in him has waned. It certainly didn’t help when film showed what looked like him crying after being sacked and injuring his arm. They saw his face. They heard his whimper. They witnessed him explain on the sidelines. They assuredly watched it again in film session. It’s hard to see how Carr can lead this team again.”

Carr’s future with the Raiders has been an interesting topic of late with some suggesting that he’s unlikely to be back with the team in 2019.

Carr, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. He is was in the final year of his contract when the Raiders signed him to a five-year, $125 million extension that included $70 million guaranteed last year.

Carr will make base salaries of $7.4 million and $19.9 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Carr has appeared in six games and thrown for 1,783 yards while completing 71.7 percent of his passes to go along with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has also rushed for 36 yards.
