‘Relatively Close’ Gap Between Dolphins QBs Moore And Tannehill

Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin believes that the gap between the incumbent starting quarterback, Matt Moore, and rookie signal-caller Ryan Tannehill is ‘relatively close’.

The third Dolphins QB, David Garrard, is out for two to four weeks with a knee injury, which makes the race for the starting job a two-horse race.

“We had a fast-tempo run play designed into our boundry and they had blitz called and if he had handed the ball off it would have been a minus play,” Philbin said, via the Miami Herald.

“But he made a quick decision, no hesitation, saw it clearly, got the ball out and we got a seven or eight-yard gain. Those are the kind of things we like to see from a rookie quarterback.”

In Miami’s first preseason game, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Moore completed 7 of 12 passes for 79 yards and an interception. Meanwhile, Tannehill completed 14 of 21 for 167 yards and a touchdown pass.
