Report: 49ers “Closing In” On Deal With DL Darnell Dockett

Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 is hearing that the 49ers are “closing in” on signing former Cardinals DL Darnell Dockett.

According to Jurecki, San Francisco is going to make Dockett an offer after he passed his physical.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported earlier in the day that Dockett choosing between the 49ers and Cardinals, even though the Rams and Seahawks are interested as well.

There was talk that Dockett could inform the Cardinals of the offers he received before the start of free agency and give them the chance to either match or best the offer, but it sounds like things could be done at some point in the near future with the 49ers.

According to Kent Somers, the Cardinals are believed to have offered Dockett a one-year deal worth a minimum of $2.5 million and could increase to around $4 million through play-time and production incentives before releasing him.

Dockett, 33, sustained a torn ACL and MCL that he sustained during a preseason practice back in August.

In 2013, Dockett recorded 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks over the course of 16 games for the Cardinals. That year, Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 30 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 45 qualifying players.

We have Dockett listed as the No. 88 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
