Report: 49ers G Alex Boone Turned Down A Top-12 Offer From 49ers

 

Update:

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that there is no indication that the 49ers and G Alex Boone are close to an agreement.

Sources tell Maiocco that if the 49ers had in fact offered Boone a top-12 salary, which was previously reported, he would have shown up to training ago long ago. 

San Francisco is reportedly offering Boone an extension, which would add a few years to his current deal, rather than a new contract. Maiocco seems to think that this could be issue between the two sides.

• Ian Rapoport mentions that the 49ers isn’t quite there in regards to a top-12 salary, which would be around $5.3 million.

Rand Getlin has been told by sources that 49ers G Alex Boone has not turned down a contract that would have paid him like a top-12 guard.

• However, Ian Rapoport confirms the previous report and adds that the 49ers would like to keep Boone.
• Bill Williamson reports that Boone’s offer from the 49ers is “not ever in the top-25.”
• Matt Barrows mentions that there are obviously different ways to define what an offer truly is.

Gil Brandt of the NFL Network reports that the 49ers G Alex Boone has turned down a contract offer from the team that would have made him a top-12 guard in terms of salary.

Meanwhile, Rand Getlin mentions that the longer Boone holds out, the more valuable he becomes as a number of teams around the league could use interior offensive line help.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network previously reported that the Buccaneers have interest in possibly trading for Boone.

Although, Rapoport added that there has been no conversations between the two teams up to this point, but the front office has touched base with a number of teams to discuss available options.

There are obviously other teams around the NFL who would likely have interest in Boone if the 49ers were to make him available for trade.

As things stand right now, Boone’s average salary would make him the 43rd highest paid guard in the league.

Boone, 27, is entering the fourth year of a five-year deal and is slated to make $2 million for the 2014 season. He currently counts $2.6 million against the cap next season.

Boone moved from tackle to guard two seasons ago and it paid off in a big way for the 49ers, as he graded out as the No. 3 guard in the 2012 season according to Pro Football Focus.  However, he regressed some last year when he was rated as the No. 40 guard out of 81 qualifying players.
