Report: 49ers Hoping To Sign WR Michael Crabtree To Extension In Coming Weeks

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the 49ers WR Michael Crabtree is the team’s next target for a contract extension.

  • According to Rapoport, San Francisco is hoping to have a deal in place with Crabtree before the start of the season, or talks are likely to be tabled until next year.
  • Rapoport adds that Crabtree is willing to include “top-end” incentives than fight for a higher base salary.

This news comes less than an hour after the team announced that they have signed DL Glenn Dorsey to a two-year extension.

Crabtree is without a doubt the team’s most talented receiver. Jordy Nelson just landed a deal that will pay him just shy of $10 million per season, which isn’t far off from the $10 million salary Brandon Marshall secured from the Bears.

It seems likely that Crabtree will be looking for something in that neighborhood.

Crabtree, 26, is entering the final year of his six-year, $32 million rookie contract and is set to make $3.5 million for the 2014 season.

Last year, Crabtree appeared in just five games and caught 19 passes for 284 yards receiving and a touchdown.
