Report: 49ers OLB Aldon Smith Not Facing Charges For Airport Bomb Threat

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that 49ers OLB Aldon Smith will not face charges stemming from an incident that occurred at LAX back in April.

Smith was arrested for making a false bomb threat at the airport and was later released on $20,000 bond.

The incident took place after Smith was randomly selected to be screened at the airport security gate. According to previous reports, Smith  became “belligerent and uncooperative” and mentioned that he was in possession of a bomb.

Smith is also facing three felony weapons charges and a DUI, so there is still a good chance that he will receive a suspension to start the season. Smith has plead no contest to these charges.

San Francisco picked up Smith’s fifth-year option a few months ago, which is a pretty good indication that he remains in their long-term plans as long as he can prevent any new off-the-field issues from occurring.

Smith, 24, appeared in 11 games for the 49ers last year and totaled 34 tackles and 8.5 sacks. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 5 outside linebacker in a 3-4 system last year.
