49ers “Unlikely” To Keep CB Carlos Rogers Next Season?

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee takes a look at the 49ers cornerback situation moving forward now that they have re-signed Tramaine Brock to a four-year, $16 million contract extension.

According to Barrows, the 49ers made a similar contract offer to Tarell Brown as the one just signed by Brock.

More interesting than that is the fact that Barrows believes the 49ers are unlikely to keep CB Carlos Rogers on the roster for the 2014 season.

Having joined the team back in 2011, Rogers has yet to miss a single game with the 49ers. However, despite being the leader of the secondary, Rogers’ age and salary could both be concerns that will force the team to reconsider his roster spot. Rogers will be 33 next year and is set to make $6.5 million in base salary and another year remaining on his contract after that which will net him another $7.25 million.

The 49ers reportedly considered releasing Rogers this last offseason, so unless he is willing to take a pay cut, it’s unlikely Rogers will remain on the roster at that cost.
