Report: 49ers WR Michael Crabtree Tears Achilles

Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that 49ers WR Michael Crabtree has suffered a torn Achilles tendon during OTAs on Tuesday.

  • Garafolo adds that Crabtree is expected to undergo surgery, which could end his 2013 season.
  • Adam Schefter reports that doctors told Crabtree last night that he would be sidelined for six months and recommended immediate surgery.
  • Chris Mortensen reports that Crabtree has already undergone surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon.

Ravens LB Terrell Suggs and Buccaneers DE Da’Quan Bowers both suffered the same injury last year and were able to return in a matter of months, but you have to wonder whether or not this could be a larger issue for Crabtree seeing as he plays a skill position.

San Francisco did acquire Anquan Boldin during the offseason, which now looks like a even better move. Mario Manningham is coming off of a torn ACL, so there will be some questions regarding his effectiveness this season. 2012 first-rounder A.J. Jenkins was essentially red-shirted last year, so he should have an opportunity to compete for a starting job during training camp. Quinton Patton could also be someone to watch as well.
