Report: “50-50” Chance Of Jack Del Rio Returning As Raiders’ HC In 2018

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the odds of Jack Del Rio returning as the Raiders’ head coach in 2018 is currently “50-50.”

Del Rio signed a four-year extension with the Raiders after they made the playoffs last year. However, Florio mentions that the team will need to create enough excitement to keep fans showing up, even though they’ll be leaving for a new stadium in Las Vegas.

According to Florio, Del Rio’s fate ultimately could turn on the outcome of their final two games.

Even if the Raiders elect to retain Del Rio for next season, Florio says that it’s a “near certainty” that offensive coordinator Todd Downing will be fired.

Del Rio, 54, began his head coaching career with the Jaguars from 2003-2011 and led them to a regular season record of 68-71 (48.9 percent) and franchise to two playoff appearances.

After his time in Jacksonville, the Broncos signed him to become their defensive coordinator from 2012-2014 and helped create one of the strongest defenses in the NFL during that time.

The Raiders brought him in as their head coach in 2015. During his three years with the Raiders, Del Rio has led them to a record of 25-21 (54.3 percent), which includes a 12-win season and a playoff appearance in 2016.

We’ll have more regarding Del Rio and the Raiders as the news is available.
