Report: “99.9 Percent” Chance Tom Coughlin Is Back With Giants Next Year

Steve Serby of the New York Post reports that the odds of Giants HC Tom Coughlin returning for the 2015 season have “skyrocketed dramatically.

  • Serby’s source mentioned that there is a “99.9 percent he’s back” for next season.

A source told The Post several weeks ago Coughlin’s return at that time was “50-50,” so things have clearly changed in his favor, assuming Serby’s source is accurate.

The Giants wouldn’t confirm anything, and a decision regarding Coughlin’s future with the team is likely to come after the season.

There has been a great deal of speculation as to whether or not this could be Coughlin’s final year in charge of the Giants. However, they did just install a brand new offensive system that has shown some positive signs throughout the year, but firing Coughlin leaves them in a tough position.

Do they promote OC Ben McAdoo after just one year with the team, despite the fact that he has no experience as a coordinator or a head coach beyond this? They could also move on completely, but this would force Eli Manning and the offensive to be on their third system in as many years.

Coughlin has led them to two Super Bowl win in the past eight years, but his team hasn’t won more than nine games since the 2010 season.

His overall regular season record with New York is 95-79 (.546), but he has won eight of 11 postseason games.
