Report: Adrian Peterson’s Agent Got In Fight With Vikings Exec, Future With Team In Question

Update:

Adrian Peterson’s father tells Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press that his son is open to returning to the Vikings next year, even though a report had said he “would never play there again.”

He is open to returning to the Vikings,’’ Nelson Peterson told the Pioneer Press in a phone interview. “He hasn’t closed the door on saying, ‘I won’t play for the Vikings.’ He hasn’t demanded a trade.’’

Nelson couldn’t confirm the reported incident involving Peterson’s agent and a Vikings executive.

Nelson Peterson did say that Kevin Warren is one of the reasons his son is concerned about returning to Minnesota next year.

Kevin Warren was a major player in the push last year to not have Adrian reinstated,’’ said Nelson Peterson. “We had our sources that we knew that Kevin wasn’t working for Adrian to get him back on the field and was working to keep Adrian off the field.’’

It’s worth mentioning that Warren recently received a promotion from the Vikings.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the relationship between the Vikings and RB Adrian Peterson took a dramatic turn during the combine last week.

According to La Canfora, Peterson’s agent, Ben Dogra, had to be separated from a member of the Vikings’ front office during a heated verbal altercation about his client. This is according to “numerous sources with knowledge of the situation.

La Canfora adds that the exchange was with Vikings VP of football operations Rob Brzezinski, and Dogra made it clear to Minnesota that Peterson “would never play there again.”

He will never play another game for the Vikings,” a person close to Peterson told La Canfora. “It’s over.”

The incident was reportedly broken up by former Tampa Bay general manager Mark Dominik.

Neither the Vikings nor Dogra were willing to respond to La Canfora regarding this incident.

Over the weekend, a report surfaced that Peterson wanted to play for the Cowboys, but the Vikings are unwilling to trade him.

However, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reported last night that the Vikings haven’t approached him or his representatives regarding a potential pay cut.

Beyond that, Tomasson reports that Peterson hasn’t asked the team to make him available for trade.

Source tell La Canfora that Peterson ending up with the Cowboys is is “hardly a slam dunk.” Interestingly enough, a source mentioned the Redskins as a “dark-horse” potential suitor for him.

The Vikings have said publicly that they want Peterson to be back next year, but there is obviously no guarantee at this point in time.

Peterson, 29, still has another three years remaining on his seven-year, $96 million contract that included $36 million guaranteed. Over the next three years, Peterson stands to make base salaries of $12.75 million (2015), $14.75 million (2016), and $16.75 million (2017).

As for his cap figures, the Vikings are looking at $15.4 million (2015), $15 million (2016), and $17 million (2017).

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Peterson outright would free up $13 million in available cap space and create $2.4 million dead money.

Peterson appeared in just one game for the Vikings and ran for 75 yards on 21 carries (3.6 YPC) while adding two receptions for 18 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding the Vikings and Peterson as the news is available.
