Report: Adrian Peterson’s Career Could Be In Question

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has spoken to multiple sources that are convinced Adrian Peterson has yet to come to grips with the idea that his 2014 season has “all but officially ended.

Mortensen’s sources even take it a step further by suggesting that his future in the NFL is question as well.

Peterson and his legal team are reportedly hoping to expedite his hearing and there has been talk that a plea deal regarding the child abuse charge he’s facing could be reached. However, Mortensen mentions that even if he were to reach an agreement with prosecutors, the NFL would almost certainly hand down a severe punishment of their own.

On Friday, tweeted out that he had passed a lie detector test, even though no one is accusing him of lying in this case. Mortensen’s sources mentioned that this is just another example that he “really doesn’t get it.

Team sources tell Mort that the Vikings “do not foresee Peterson in their future.”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk previously mentioned that Peterson’s time with the Vikings is “most likely” coming to an end.

Florio expects the Vikings to move on from Peterson after the season given that he stands to make $12.75 million for the 2015 season.

Peterson’s contract would be very difficult to trade in its current structure. There has been speculation for several months now that teams in the state of Texas like the Cowboys and Texans could be options for Peterson if he were to be able, but Florio mentions that his legal issues are being resolved in the state and could impact his willingness to play for a team in his home state.

Peterson, 29, is entering the fifth year of his seven-year, $96 million contract that includes $36 million guaranteed. He has base salaries of $12.75 million (2015), $14.75 million (2016) and $15.75 million (2017) coming his way over the remainder of the deal.
