Report: Alabama S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix To Meet With Bears This Week

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, citing a source, reports that Alabama S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will visit with the Bears this week.

  • Rapoport adds that Clinton-Dix has already met with the Lions, Panthers, Titans and Falcons.

Clinton-Dix is considered by many to be the best safety in this year’s draft class, and some even consider him to be the best defensive back available.

Chicago holds the 14th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and they will certainly be looking to upgrade their defensive backfield at some point.

Last year’s starting safeties-FS Chris Conte and SS Major Wright-struggled mightily.  Pro Football Focus ranked Conte No. 82 and Wright No. 86, out of 86 qualifying safeties.  Wright signed with Tampa Bay this offseason, and while Conte will return, he will likely miss parts of training camp after having shoulder surgery.

The Bears did bring in some veteran players at the position, signing free agents Ryan Mundy, M.D. Jennings, and Danny McCray.  The Bears likely view these as depth signings however, and Clinton-Dix would provide a major talent upgrade.

Last year, Clinton-Dix totaled 51 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups for the Crimson Tide defense.

We have the Rams taking  Clinton-Dix at No. 13 overall in our most recent 2014 NFL Mock Draft.
