The Bears announced that they’ve signed veteran DL Ray McDonald to a contract.

According to Aaron Leming of BearReport.com, the Bears are close to an agreement on a one-year contract with veteran DL Ray McDonald.

New Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio worked with McDonald in San Francisco, so there’s an obvious connection between the two parties.

McDonald’s agent, Tom Condon, recently told Eric Branch of SFGate.com that multiple teams have inquired about his client, even though there is still a pending legal case involving McDonald.

As you know, he’s a very good football player,” Condon said at Stanford’s pro day on Thursday. “There certainly are teams that are inquiring about him.”

McDonald, 30, released McDonald back in December after rape allegations against him surfaced. No charges were ever filed in that case, but the 49ers still elected to move on given that this was his first off-the-field incident.

According to Condon, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office is unlikely pursue charges in the most recent case, even though the investigation is ongoing.

“I would anticipate that they don’t find anything,” Condon said. “As Ray has said publicly, he’s got video evidence of consensual sex over a two-day period of time.

I don’t have any doubt that he’ll be vindicated,” Condon said. “… But it’s still an influencing factor because of the sensitivity of the social issue. It’s unfortunate, but that’s the way it goes.

In 2014, McDonald appeared in 14 games and recorded 39 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble for the 49ers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the N0. 12 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 47 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding the Bears and McDonald as the news is available.
