Report: Redskins Considered A “Long Shot” To Sign S Mike Mitchell

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, is sounds like the Redskins are now a “long shot” to sign free agent S Mike Mitchell.

The Eagles, 49ersBears, Broncos and Falcons. have all been mentioned as potential options for Mitchell.

Mitchell, 26, totaled 67 tackles, four sacks, four interceptions and two forced fumbles during his first year in Carolina.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports the 49ers have made calls on free agent S Mike Mitchell.

  • Barrows adds that Mitchell is seen as a backup plan to Donte Whitner who is reportedly close to an agreement with the Cleveland Browns.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles have “reached out to” free agent S Mike Mitchell. However, the Eagles’ interest is reportedly “difficult to gauge” at this point in time.

  • McLane mentions that former Saints S Malcolm Jenkins could be someone to keep an eye on.

Other teams reportedly interested include: the Bears, Redskins, Broncos and Falcons.

It appears as though Mitchell already as a very solid market developing for his services. All four of these teams were expected to target mid-level options at the safety position, rather than top-tier guys like Jairus Byrd and T.J. Ward.
