Report: Henry Melton Leaves Dallas & Will Visit The Rams Tuesday

Clarence Hill reports that free agent DT Henry Melton has left Dallas after meeting with the Cowboys without a deal in place.

  • According to Hill, Melton is on his way to visit with the Rams and is still in contact with other NFL teams.

Darren Wolfson reports that the Vikings are still “maintaining dialogue” with free agent DT Henry Melton as of the Monday morning.

  • Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reported last night that Melton was visiting with the Cowboys today.
  • The Seahawks are also interested in signing Melton as well.

The Seahawks and Vikings are known to have interest in Melton, but this is the first we’ve seen regarding the Rams being an option for Melton.

Melton was considered one of the better interior lineman in the league after posting 13 sacks combined in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.  A converted running back at the University of Texas, Melton played the crucial “under-tackle” position in the Bears  defensive front, which requires a quick, penetrating interior presence.

Melton’s value has taken a hit, after tearing his ACL in the third game of this season.  He is expected to be ready to practice by May, but the injury raises questions about his ability to maintain his quickness.  Additionally, Melton was arrested on December 21st for assault and public intoxication, which may also hurt his value.

We have Melton listed as the No. 2 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

  • The Cowboys and Seahawks are also in contact with Melton as well, according to Wolfson.

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that Melton is still in Seattle as of this morning.

  • According to Anderson, the plan is for Melton to visit the Cowboys, but only if a deal doesn’t get “finalized” with the Seahawks.
  • Anderson adds that the “situation remains fluid as of now.”

He spent all of Thursday meeting with the Vikings before meeting with the Seahawks on Friday. The Cowboys and Raiders have also come up as potential options for Melton.

Calvin Watkins reports that Bears free agent DT Henry Melton is scheduled to visit with the Cowboys after he visits with the Seahawks.
