Bears Hiring Vic Fangio & Ed Donatell

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that the Bears will also add former 49ers secondary coach Ed Donatell to their coaching staff.

Jason La Canfofa of CBS Sports reports that former 49ers DC Vic Fangio has decided to join John Fox’s coaching staff with the Bears, despite interest from the Redskins

  • La Canfora adds that Washington was “very interested” in hiring Fangio.

Last night, La Canfora mentioned that he wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the Redskins hired him as their next head coach, but it appears as though Fox was able to convince him to pass on the Washington job.

La Canfora expects the Bears to hire Ed Donatell as the team’s defensive backs coach given how familiar they are from their time in San Francisco. However, La Canfora adds that nothing is official with Donatell as of now.

The Bears’ defense is in need of major upgrades, but the addition of Fangio is a good first step in getting things turned around in Chicago.
