Report: Bengals & LB Vontaze Burfict “Making Progress” On New Contract

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports that the the agents for Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict met with the team this week regarding a new contract and the two sides are “making progress.”

Recent reports mentioned that the two sides were discussing a new contract that would prevent him from becoming a restricted free agent next year.

Burfict, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Arizona State back in 2012 due to numerous concerns, but he has quickly developed into the Bengals best linebacker, and surprisingly led the NFL tackles last season. There

As of now, he stands to make just $570,000 for the 2014 season, which happens to be the final year of his rookie contract.

There’s no question that Burfict is in line for a large raise and it will be interesting to see what kind of salary he’s able to secure from Cincinnati.

Last year, he totaled 170 tackles, three sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, two recoveries and a defensive touchdown.
