Report: Bills Have A “90 Percent” Chance of Signing TE Charles Clay

Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reports that Bills are still in a “holding pattern” in regards to Dolphins TE Charles Clay.

A source close to the situation tells Carucci that the Bills remain interested in signing him, and will eventually sign him to an offer sheet at some point.

Carucci’s source estimated that the Bills have a “90 percent” chance of landing Clay in the coming weeks.

Buffalo’s pursuit of Clay reportedly stems from HC Rex Ryan, who is more than familiar with Clay given his familiarity with the AFC East.

The holdup for the Bills appears to be released to their financial situation and concocting an offer that would apply a great of pressure to the Dolphins in regards to matching the offer sheet.

  • Tim Graham of the Buffalo News reported over the weekend that the Dolphins have “lost patience” with and have “moved on” from Clay.
  • According to Graham, the current expectation from the Dolphins is that Clay will end up signing with the Bills.

Miami signed former Browns TE Jordan Cameron to a two-year contract earlier in the week and were reportedly trying to sign Clay to a long-term deal, but it appears as though contract talks may have hit a snap.

It’s worth mentioning that the Browns could still get involved for Clay at some point, but as things stand right now, they don’t appear to be a serious option.

Clay, 25, caught 58 passes for 605 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of 14 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 14 tight end out of 67 qualifying players.

We’ll have more updates regarding Clay as the news is available.
