“Hard To Imagine” The Bills Trading S Jairus Byrd

Update

Ian Rapoport reports that it’s “hard to imagine” the Bills trading S Jairus Byrd at this point in time.

Buffalo reportedly wants a young player in return for Byrd, which somewhat complicates the situation. Byrd wants to be the league’s highest paid safety, so that too is working against a potential trade.

Rapoport mentions that the Bills could always re-sign him during the offseason. Buffalo could also use their franchise tag on him for the second time in as many years.

We have Bryd listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Buffalo Bills are open to trading S Jairus Byrd, but they are not actively shopping him around the league.

  • Rapoport adds that the Bills are looking for a young player and not a draft pick in return for Byrd.

This coincides with what previous reports have suggested in the past few weeks. Buffalo has been willing to take phones ready Byrd for awhile now, but it’s not as though they are the ones actively trying to get a deal done.

Byrd, 27, is in the final year of his contract and is reportedly seeking a similar contract to that of Eric Weddle, who received a five-year, $40 million deal from the Chargers. Byrd ‘s asking price and the fact that he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season will most likely factor into what what they are able to get in return for him.

There are not a lot of quality defensive players like Byrd available, so there is at least a small chance that something could get done by tomorrow.
