Report: Bills Still Hoping To Sign S Jairus Byrd To A Contract Extension

Ian Rapoport reports that the Bills would still like to get a long-term contract worked out with impending free agent S Jairus Byrd.

  • Rapoport adds that Buffalo “won’t let him get away for nothing” and plans to franchise him if they are unable to get something worked out in the next few weeks.

Interestingly enough, Rapoport mentioned that there is a “real” possibility that the Browns could target Byrd in free agency, but it appears unlikely that he’ll even be available.

Byrd, 27, is reportedly seeking a similar contract to that of Eric Weddle, who received a five-year, $40 million deal from the Chargers. Last year, Byrd totaled 48 tackles, 4 sacks, one interception and a forced fumble for the Bills defense. Pro Football Focus has Byrd rated as the No. 8 safety in the league last season.

We have Byrd listed as our No. 3 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
