Mike Klis  of 9News reports the Broncos and free agent QB Brock Osweiler have reopened contract negotiation ahead of the free agent deadline.

  • According to Klis, there’s expected to be serious negotiations between the two parties today with Denver likely to improve their initial offer was worth more than $45 million over three years with incentives.
  • However, Klis adds that the Broncos expect the Texans to make Osweiler an offer.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that while the Broncos want to keep QB Brock Osweiler, and he has interest from the Texans.

However, Florio mentions that league insiders can’t tell whether the Texans’ interest is real or if they’re being used to push up Osweiler’s asking price.

A league source tells Florio that if Osweiler were to take a visit to Houston, he most likely won’t be returning to the Broncos.

There has already been talk that the Broncos could consider trading for 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick if they lose out on Osweiler.

James Palmer of NFL Media reports that the Broncos and Brock Osweiler‘s representatives haven’t had any negotiations since Denver made him the initial three-year offer several days ago.

The Broncos are offering Osweiler a three-year, $13 million contract, but are willing to increase that to around $15 million or so, according to Jason La Canfora.

Earlier in the day, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Denver and Houston are shaping up to be the two “primary potential landing spots” for Osweiler.

The Broncos clearly want Osweiler back, but reports from recent days have said that the Texans could be the one team that could stand in the way of him returning to Denver.

With Peyton Manning retiring, it’s clear that Osweiler will have some leverage with the Broncos, even though he’s played in a limited number of games.

Another issue is that other teams around the league have a ton of cap space to work with, so if top dollar is a big consideration for Osweiler, the Broncos may have a difficult time being the most competitive while addressing other roster needs.

Osweiler, 25, played out the final year of his four-year, $3.516 million rookie contract and will be an unrestricted free agent next week.

In 2015, Osweiler threw for 1,967 yards while completing 61.8 percent of his passes to go along with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions over the course of seven games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
