Report: Broncos Have “Every Intention” Of Picking Up Von Miller’s Fifth-Year Option

 

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Broncos have “every intention” of picking up LB Von Miller‘s fifth-year option.

• Florio mentions that there’s still no reason for the Broncos to do so before the May 3 deadline.

The fifth-year option would run the Broncos $9.754 million for the 2015 season, however, this figure is not guaranteed, and the two sides could always work out a long-term extension in the coming months.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported a few months ago that the Broncos are “unwilling” to give Miller “anywhere close to the guaranteed money he will want” in his next contract.

Things may have changed in recent months, but there is no question that the Broncos will need to manage their cap moving forward given that WR Demaryius Thomas and TE Julius Thomas are both in need of new contracts.

Miller, 24, has totaled 35 sacks, 11 forced fumbles and 132 totals tackles in first three years in the league. He is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and the 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 4-3 outside linebacker by a huge margin.
