NFL Targeting A Mid-August Appeal Date For Von Miller

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the NFL is targeting mid-August as an appeal date for Von Miller’s four-game suspension.

We are still waiting to get confirmation as to what substances Miller is accused of taking.

  • The Denver Post reported that Miller tested positive for amphetamines and marijuana.

It’s worth noting that a four-game suspension implies that this would be Miller’s second drug-related incident since entering the league a few years ago.

Von Miller has offered a response to the report that he is facing a four-game suspension.

  • George Atallah notes that Miller’s suspension does not involve the Steroids and Related Substances Policy.

————-

While it was previously unknown whether Von Miller was facing suspension for the substance-abuse policy or the PED policy, it is now known that he’s in fact facing violations for both.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post is reporting Miller tested positive for marijuana and amphetamines in 2011.

It’s possible the latter could be related to Adderall, which results in four game suspensions automatically. In order to get suspended for smoking marijuana, Miller would have to violate the policy three times.

It’s unknown why a test from two seasons ago is just now being brought into questioning. No further information is known at this time.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Broncos LB Von Miller is facing a four-game suspension for violating an NFL policy.

  • Schefter adds that the case is currently in the appeals process.
  • Schefter reports that Miller could lose 1/16th of his signing bonus or $860,812 if his suspension holds up.

Miller, 24, has been spectacular since entering the league two seasons ago. Clearly, it would be an understatement to say this would be a big loss for the Broncos defense. Denver wound up replacing DE Elvis Dumervil with Shaun Phillips during free agency, so there are already some questions regarding the pass-rush coming from the opposite side of Miller.

We’re not sure which NFL policy Miller supposedly violated, but have more updates as the news becomes available.
