Report: Browns & 49ers Discussed Trading Jim Harbaugh For Two Third-Round Picks

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the deal being discussed between Browns and the 49ers that involved HC Jim Harbaugh included a pair of third-round draft picks.

It’s a little surprising to hear that the 49ers were at least considering the idea of parting with their head coach who nearly led them to a Super Bowl win for two mid-round picks.

Florio admits that the 49ers most likely could have increased their asking price by getting other teams involved in the trade talks. However, it appears as though the idea never gained much traction several months ago.

According to Florio, Harbaugh’s wife does not want to leave San Francisco Bay area, which could improve the Raiders odds of possibly luring him across the bay to run their team.

Florio has spoken to a league source who said that Harbaugh would “love” to return to the Raiders, which happens to be where he started his coaching career several years ago.

Earlier today, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports mentioned that he doesn’t see any way of Harbaugh being back with the 49ers next year, even if they win the Super Bowl. According to Glazer, Harbaugh’s act has reportedly “worn thin” throughout the entire 49ers’ organization.

Harbaugh is in the fourth year of a five-year, $25 million contract, but the two sides have agreed to table talks regarding a potential extension until after the season.

Harbaugh’s contract and future with the 49ers figure to be popular topics throughout the offseason. We’ll have more updates as the news is available.
