Browns Hire Kyle Shanahan As Offensive Coordinator

Update:

The Browns have officially announced the hiring of Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator.

——–

Mary Kay Cabot reports that a league source has informed her that an agreement between the Browns and former Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan is done.

  • Cabot adds that Shanahan will receive a three-year contract and the deal will be finalized on Tuesday.
  • She reported earlier in the day that Shanahan was back from his vacation and a deal was expected to done at some point today.

Shanahan has seen his fair share of ups and downs in the past two seasons with the Redskins. In 2012, he received a lot of praise for the job he did with Robert Griffin III helping him to make the transition to the NFL, which resulted in a Rookie of the Year trophy for RGIII. However, this season nothing seemed to work for the Redskins offense. Griffin didn’t look like the same player which ultimately impacted the overall effectiveness of their rushing attack and offense as a whole.

Cleveland hired Mike Pettine as their new head coach less than one year after they hired Rob Chudzinski for the same position. Shanahan takes over for Norv Turner who departed for the Vikings.

Cleveland is widely expected to draft a quarterback this year, so I’m sure the Browns were looking for someone with a track record of helping rookies step in and produce. Rumors are already circulating that the Browns could trade for Redskins backup quarterback Kurt Cousins, but it remains just a speculative idea at this point in time.

We’ll have to see if Shanahan is able to produce the same results as he did in 2012 with Washington.
