Titans In “Fairly Substantial” Trade Talks With 3-4 Teams, Could Be Looking For Three 1st Rd Picks

Update:

Bob Holtzman of ESPN spoke to Titans GM Ruston Webster who mentioned that they’re currently in trade talks with three-four teams regarding the No. 2 overall pick.

Webster referred to the trade talks “fairly substantial” but added that they would like to stay in top half of round one.

Jay Glazer reports that the Titans telling teams inquiring about the No. 2 pick that it’s going to take a “huge value” for them to trade the selection.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, three first-round picks are just the starting point in trade talk with Tennessee.

Other reports have said that the Titans could ultimately elect to hold onto the pick and take Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Titans have received calls from “multiple teams” inquiring about the asking price for their No. 2 overall pick.

Schefter doesn’t say who has contacted the Titans specifically, but it’s safe to assume that the Browns, Chargers, Eagles, and possibly the Rams could be interested.

Paul Kuharsky is now reporting that the Browns have not made an offer to the Titans for the No. 2 overall pick, despite the recent report from Pat McManamon.

———-

Pat McManamon of ESPN reports that the Browns have offered their No. 12 and No. 19 overall picks to the Titans for the No. 2 overall selection.

  • According to McManamon, the Browns would take Oregon QB Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 pick.

Recent reports have said that the Browns are still a team to keep an eye on in a trade scenario for a quarterback, even after they used a first-round pick on Johnny Manziel last year.

Some have said that it could require more draft picks than No. 12 and No. 19 for Cleveland to move up this far, but this is certainly an offer worth entertaining, assuming the report is accurate.

For what it’s worth, John Clayton doesn’t believe this is enough draft compensation for a deal to get done and the Browns would probably have to add another first-round pick to the deal.

Jeff Darlington reported earlier in the day that the Titans aren’t just taking calls regarding the No. 2 overall pick — they’re making calls too.

According to Darlington, the Titans want to be inside the top 16 or 17 picks to ensure that they get an impact player.

The trade activity for the No. 2 overall pick has reportedly been minimal up to this point, but that is expected to change as the day plays out, per Darlington.

We’ll have more updates regarding the Browns possibly trading up for Mariota as the news is available.
