Report: Browns Release QB Jason Campbell

 

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Browns have released veteran QB Jason Campbell.

  • The Browns also released Brandon Weeden on Wednesday as well, so they are cleaning house at the quarterback position.

There was talk that Campbell could be released in the next few days seeing has he had a $250,000 roster bonus due on Thursday.

Campbell, 32, signed a two-year contract $3.75 million and included $500,000 guaranteed. He has a base salary of $3 million coming his way in 2014 to go along with a cap figure of $3.25 million.

Cleveland stands to gain all $3.25 million of that back in cap space by releasing Campbell, according to OverTheCap.com.

Last year, Campbell appeared in nine games, completing 56.8 percent of his passes for 2,015 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
