Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns and TE Jordan Cameron were unable to work out an agreement on a long-term contract and will instead play out the final year of his current deal.
Cameron previously mentioned that contract talks between his reps and the team were “going well.”
“It’s positive, the whole process has been positive,” Cameron said, via Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I’ll leave it at that. It’s ongoing and going well. . . .
“Always hopeful, but I’m not worried about that at all. We’ve got Washington to look forward to.”
Obviously, the two sides were hoping to have a contract in place before the start of the season, but it looks like Cameron will wait and see if any progress is made next offseason.
It seems likely that the Browns would use the franchise tag on Cameron next year to prevent him from reaching the open market.
Cameron, 25, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is scheduled to make just $645,000 for the 2014 season. He’s coming off of a break season in which he caught 80 passes for 917 yards receiving and seven touchdowns over the course of 15 games.
He’s currently dealing with a shoulder injury and did not practice in either of the past two days.
