Report: Buccaneers Calling All 31 Teams Regarding A Josh Freeman Trade

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that the Buccaneers have already spoken with close to a dozen teams regarding a possible Josh Freeman trade.

  • Werder adds that Tampa Bay expects to speak with all 31 teams at some point Tuesday.
  • Pro Football Talk reports that GM Mark Dominik personally is making the calls.
  • Albert Breer reports that the Titans are “unlikely” to trade for Freeman.

Freeman has both requested a trade and asked to be released, which would allow him to receive his entire $6.2 million in remaining salary and also give him the opportunity to sign with a team of his choosing.

Werder reports that Tampa Bay has “no intention of immediately doing this.” According to Werder, interest in Freeman is said to be “mild” at this point in time.

Interested teams could always wait until the trade deadline to reach an agreement as it would reduce the amount of money they would need to pay him for the remainder of the season. Even then, teams would probably have enough leverage to force the Bucs to eat some on Freeman’s remaining salary.

The situation has quickly become toxic, so a resolution appears to be coming in the new future. We’ll have more regarding this topic as soon as the news is available.
