Buccaneers Officially Hire Jason Licht As Their New GM

Update:

——–

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that the Buccaneers have reached an agreement with Cardinals executive Jason Licht to be their new general manager.

  • Glazer adds that the two sides are still working out the final contract details.
  • Licht will reportedly have control over the draft and other personnel decisions, according Glazer.
  • Adam Schefter reports that Licht will receive a four-year deal with a team option that leaves his contract in line with Lovie Smith’s.
  • Giants executive Marc Ross was also reportedly a finalist for the job as well.

Licht has been the Vice President of Player Personnel for the Arizona Cardinals since Steve Keim took over as the team’s general manager last year. Licht was a finalist for the Bears general manager position before they elected to go with Phil Emery.

Licht inherits a roster with some talent on both sides of the ball and some cap flexibility if needed. He also gets the opportunity to shape the team along with new HC Lovie Smith as they attempt to move in a new direction.
