Report: Buccaneers Hiring Leslie Frazier As DC

Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that former Vikings HC Leslie Frazier tells her that he’s “going to Tampa” to be the Buccaneers new defensive coordinator.

Previous reports indicated that the Buccaneers were considering Cowboys OL coach Rod Marinelli and Frazier for the job, but it appears as though Frazier won out in the end.

It’s worth noting that Marinelli is under contract with the Cowboys, so they could have prevented him from taking the job.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Cowboys would not allow DL Rod Marinelli out of his contract to join the Buccaneers as their defensive coordinator. (Update: 9:18 pm)

Frazier, 54, joins Lovie Smith’s new coaching staff that also includes former University of California HC Jeff Tedford who is their new offensive coordinator. Both Frazier and Smith come from the Tony Dungy coaching tree. Frazier has held three previous defensive coordinator jobs with the Vikings, Colts and Eagles.
