Report: Buccaneers “Expected” To Sign WR Lavelle Hawkins

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that the Buccaneers are expected to sign WR Lavelle Hawkins on Friday.

  • Roy Cumming of the Tampa Tribune reports that the Buccaneers are “looking” at Hawkins while they worked out a trade that sent WR Mike Williams to Buffalo for a sixth-round pick.
  • Cummings adds that they haven’t signed Hawkins to a contract yet, and are currently “just looking.”

The Buccaneers have been looking around for a receiver for a few weeks now, and the fact that they just sent Williams to the Bills implies that receiver is among their top draft priorities. It still wouldn’t hurt to sign a free agent, even if he only lasts until the preseason.

Hawkins, 27, signed a one-year contract with the Chargers last season after spending the first five years of his career with the Titans.

He appeared in just four games for San Diego in 2013, but didn’t register any offensive stats. According to Pro Football Focus, Hawkins played just 11 offensive snaps last year.
