Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the Bears and Jets have emerged as potential landing spots for Buccaneers free agent QB Mike Glennon.

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Buccaneers have offered to make free agent Mike Glennon the highest-paid backup quarterback in the NFL.

However, Glennon is expected to test the open market next week and should be able to at least secure an opportunity to compete for a starting job this summer.

According to Stroud, Glennon is closely evaluating all of his available options and is reportedly “leery” of teams with “unstable coaching situations.

The Jets have been a popular team mentioned as a potential suitor for Glennon this offseason, but they’re also a team with a questionable coaching situation moving forward.

As of now, the highest-paid backup quarterback, not including Tony Romo, is Chase Daniels of the Eagles, who signed a three-year, $21-million contract.

Stroud adds that the Buccaneers are prepared to go with Ryan Griffin or Sean Refree as their backup quarterback to Jameis Winston next year if needed. In fact, the Bucs have reportedly offered a two-year extension, but could still tender him a restricted contract in the coming days.

Glennon, 26, is a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.104 million rookie contract and stands to make a reasonable base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Glennon appeared in two games for the Buccaneers threw for 75 yards while completing 10 of 11 pass attempts to go along with one touchdown and no interceptions.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
